Our society requires trade, so we trade goods or currency. If someone doesn't want to trade to survive, then that someone can go elsewhere and starve in a third world country. Personally, I like a system where I can make money doing something I may or may not enjoy, then come home and make art to my heart's content, without worrying about fetching water five miles every day. A sheep does not contribute to its society. It just sits around playing video games while its parents feed it. You made the right decision for your son.
